Rajapack enlisted 10-100 to architect a modern, forward looking replacement for their ageing Virtual infrastructure and Storage. After our initial consultations with the internal Rajapack I.T. team, it became apparent that, whilst a complete replacement of the infrastructure was required, from a licensing and familiarity perspective, there was a strong desire to stay with a VMWare based solution. As the existing storage was also ear-marked for simultaneous replacement, we suggested to Rajapack that we should take advantage of the opportunity that this afforded and embrace a Hyper Converged solution. Bearing in mind the desire to stay with VMWare, vSAN was the perfect companion.
With the basics of the architecture agreed upon, we discussed the details and using only the best suppliers, agreed upon a vSphere 6.5/vSAN 6.6 solution running on HPE Proliant vSAN hybrid cluster nodes with Cisco 10Gb storage switching. For backup and disaster recovery, we also took the opportunity to replace the old Tape Orientated backup solution with a modern disk based Veeam solution, bringing with it huge improvements in recovery point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO). Due to the generation gap between the old and new infrastructures, a migration wasn’t possible. However, through installing the new vSAN cluster alongside the existing infrastructure and going through a very rigorous testing procedure before migrating any live virtual machine’s, the whole migration was achieved in a few days and with only scheduled downtime of the individual virtual machine that was actively being migrated.
Mark Czarnecki, Head of I.T, Rajapack
"We remain very impressed with our new environment. The performance is in some cases magnitudes better, all whilst consuming a fraction of the power and rack space of our old infrastructure. 10-100 delivered the project efficiently and with excellent communication, we really couldn’t ask for more. I must say Chris Kay is a fantastic asset; I have nothing but praise for him. Exuding professionalism, always adopting an attitude where nothing is ever too much, coupled with mass technical expertise. What more could I ask for?“
